Dear 2nd Grade Parents,
We are excited to announce that our second grade musical this year will be “Weather the Weather!”. We will perform this musical on Tuesday, March 28th at 6:30 p.m. in the Benignus cafeteria. Students will need to report at 6:10. There will be a dress rehearsal for the school earlier that day. This is a grade level musical and we look forward to having every student perform. The program is approximately 20-25 minutes long.
Students will have the opportunity to sign up for a special part which includes singing, speaking or dancing. The singing and speaking parts will be chosen through an audition in class. There will not be an audition for dancing parts; students can simply sign up. At this time, students can only have one special part; however, they will have a chance to list their preference on the sign up form. We will have auditions for speakers and singers during class the week of January 17. Students must be signed up through the Google Form here to be considered for a special part. Students wanting a special part must be signed up by Monday, January 17. We will complete auditions by Friday, January 20.
The singing audition will be over the song ‘Hot Cross Buns’ which will be taught in class. The speaking audition will be over the lines below. We encourage students to memorize their lines.
Cold air from above will drop.
Hot air rises to the top.
Then they circle round and round;
A Ferris wheel above the ground.
** please note that if your child is chosen for a speaking part, they will mostly likely have different lines to learn**
We understand that some students do not enjoy the individual spotlight. Students who don’t sign up for a special part will still perform the songs with their whole class for the program. No student is required to audition for a special part.
Costume assignments will be emailed after special parts are finalized, which should be in early February. We tend to ask for simple attire (solid shirts, etc) but give families the option to customize and accessorize as much as they want.
If you are interested in volunteering to help decorate the stage or help with costumes, please contact our Music Appreciation volunteer, Kathleen Sfamenos at [email protected].
We look forward to working on this program with your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
