We are excited to announce that our fifth grade musical this year will be “Veterans, We Salute You!”. We will perform this musical for families on Wednesday, November 9th at 6:30 P.M. and for our Veterans the following day (PTO will send out details for this Veteran performance similar to the First Responders Breakfast). Students will need to report at 6:10 for the Wednesday evening performance. This is a grade level musical and we look forward to having every student participate. Please check your calendar now to try and work out any potential conflicts. We estimate the total time commitment for the evening will be one hour. Dress for the performance will be pants or a skirt with a red, white or blue shirt.
Students will be able to audition for one special part such as speaking or singing. Students can also sign up for a dancing part, holding a state card or holding a military flag. (Details of holding state cards and military flags will be explained in class). Any student wishing to have a special part must fill out this Google Form by the time of their audition during music class. We will hear auditions for speaking and singing parts starting Monday, September 26 during music class. We will not hear any auditions after Friday, September 30. The dancing parts will be assigned by the music teachers. Students who don’t audition for a special part will still be expected to participate in the program. The singing audition is the song “Oh, How Lovely” which classes have been working on and we will continue to review. If your child is interested in a speaking part, they will need to practice the following lines at home. Extra points will be given to those who have it memorized.
The “Star-Spangled Banner” was written by Francis Scott Key who was a volunteer soldier. The actual flag that inspired Mr. Scott Key is currently in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum in Washington, D.C.
Auditions will be held in class in front of their peers. This is to simulate a performance.
As with any production involving so many kids, we will need some parent assistance decorating the stage. If you are interested in volunteering for the 5th grade musical, please contact either Kathleen Sfamenos [email protected] or Denisha Mathews [email protected].
We look forward to working on this program with your kids! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you,
Mrs. Bross [email protected] and Mr. Watson [email protected]
